3 Alarming Facts You Need to Know Before Reusing Water Bottles

We all use water bottles on a relatively consistent basis, whether we want to or not. They are everywhere — at the market, in fast food establishments, and in our cupboards. Often, in the name of environmentalism, we opt to re-use our water bottles, even if they are of the disposable variety.3 Alarming Facts You Need to Know Before Reusing Water Bottles
The question is, can re-using our water bottles in this way be negatively affecting our health? In some cases, the answer is yes. There are three crucial things that you should know about before refilling your empty bottle with some good old H2O, so hang on to your Brita filters — let’s jump right in.

1. Bacteria can thrive in water bottles.

While you should be OK if you use a disposable water bottle only once (as is intended), you are pushing your luck if you decide to use it again. Indeed, studies have shown that with prolonged usage, disposable bottles acquire scratches and cracks that can harbor nasty types of bacteria. It is not unlike your cutting board, which must be cleaned very thoroughly in order to ensure that all of the bacteria hiding in its gouges are eliminated.
Cleaning out your disposable water bottles cuts down on some of the risk, especially if you use warm soapy water. Still, even that presents a problem, as cleaning those kinds of bottles might damage them further (since they were not designed with re-usability in mind).
It is also important to remember that the bacteria inside of your water bottles gets there via your mouth. So if you do not wash them out, days and days worth of bacteria collects inside of them, turning your bottle into something not unlike a laboratory petri dish. One study from the University of Calgary found that a group of elementary student’s water bottles — which had been re-used several times over without being washed — contained levels of bacteria that went far above what is recommended to be present in your drinking water. This in part had to do with the fact that these bottles sat in room temperature for most of the day, which gave the bacteria present within the bottles the perfect conditions necessary to grow and

Iceland remains most peaceful nation in the world, study says

In search of peace? Maybe it's time to move to Iceland.
According to the nonprofit Institute for Economics and Peace, the thinly populated island in the midst of the North Atlantic has retained its place as the most peaceful country in the world.
The institute released its Global Peace Index for 2015this week, which ranks 162 nations around the globebased on factors like the level of violent crime, involvement in conflicts and the degree of militarization.Six out of the top 10 most peaceful countries were European, with Denmark and Austria holding the second and third spots.
"Europe maintained its position as the most peaceful region in the world, supported by a lack of domestic and external conflicts," the report said.
But that glowing review is helped by the fact that violence-plagued Ukraine is lumped into a different region: Russia and Eurasia.source cnn

Eagles may not qualify for AFCON 2017 – Oliseh

A former Super Eagles Captain, Sunday Oliseh, has said Nigeria may, for the umpteenth time, miss out on qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Eagles were unable to qualify for the 2015 AFCON held in Equatorial Guinea and according to Oliseh, if the disturbing events that has trailed the first qualifying match in the 2017 qualification series are not addressed on time, Nigeria may again be a spectator at the showpiece event fixed to hold in Gabon early 2017.

“Let Nigeria leave side issues and player character attacks aside and face pure football issues. Otherwise we might not be at the next Nations cup again as participants but mere spectators!” Oliseh wrote on his personal blog sundayoliseh.tv.
The former Juventus and Ajax of Amsterdam midfielder faulted how the Nigeria Football Federation has been all over the place in their quest to nail Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama for his supposed “uncomplimentary remarks” about the choice of Kaduna for the AFCON qualifying match against Chad.
“The current much ado about nothing on Vincent Enyeama’s comments disagreeing with the decision to play an African Nations cup qualifier in Kaduna is taking a direction now which, we may once again regret as a Nation,” Oliseh stated.
“Let’s remind ourselves that this particular game vs Chad was won by Nigeria 2-0 and keeps Nigeria on track to Nations Cup 2017.
“Nigeria is returning back from a painful setback situation of missing out on the Nations cup 2015 and barely has the qualifiers started for the next one and an opinion of its Captain is the latest thing to pounce upon to discredit another loyal servant in Vincent Enyeama with what hidden agenda this time?
Aside Enyeama, the NFF has also been on the trail of the Coach of the Eagles, Stephen Keshi, who is being investigated for allegedly applying for the Ivory Coast job while under contract with Nigeria.

    GET PRODUCTIVE

How Successful People Work Less and Get More DoneAs co-founder of Hotwire.com and CEO of Zillow for the last seven years, 39-year-old Spencer Rascoff fits most people’s definition of success. As a father of three young children, Spencer is a busy guy at home and at work.
What’s the one thing that Spencer refuses to do on the weekend? Work—at least, in the traditional sense. Rascoff says:
“I never go into the office on weekends, but I do check e-mail at night. My weekends are an important time to unplug from the day-to-day and get a chance to think more deeply about my company and my industry. Weekends are a great chance to reflect and be more introspective about bigger issues.”
new study from Stanford shows that Rascoff is on to something.
The study found that productivity per hour declines sharply when the workweek exceeds 50 hours, and productivity drops off so much after 55 hours that there’s no point in working any more. That’s right, people who work as much as 70 hours (or more) per week actually get the same amount done as people who work 55 hours.
Successful people know the importance of shifting gears on the weekend to relaxing and rejuvenating activities. Like Spencer, they use their weekends to create a better week ahead.
Image result for successThis is easier said than done, so here’s some help. The following list contains 10 things that successful people do to find balance on the weekend and to come into work at 110% on Monday morning.

    1. They Disconnect

Disconnecting is the most important weekend strategy on this list, because if you can’t find a way to remove yourself electronically from your work Friday evening through Monday morning, then you’ve never really left work.
Making yourself available to your work 24/7 exposes you to a constant barrage of stressors that prevent you from refocusing and recharging. If taking the entire weekend off handling work e-mails and calls isn’t realistic, try designating specific times on Saturday and Sunday for checking e-mails and responding to voicemails. For example, check your messages on Saturday afternoon while your kids are getting a haircut and on Sunday evenings after dinner. Scheduling short blocks of time will alleviate stress without sacrificing availability.

    2. They Minimize ChoresImage result for success

Chores have a funny habit of completely taking over your weekends. When this happens, you lose the opportunity to relax and reflect. What’s worse is that a lot of chores feel like work, and if you spend all weekend doing them, you just put in a seven-day workweek. To keep this from happening, you need to schedule your chores like you would anything else during the week, and if you don’t complete them during the allotted time, you move on and finish them the following weekend.

    3. They Reflect

Weekly reflection is a powerful tool for improvement. Use the weekend to contemplate the larger forces that are shaping your industry, your organization, and your job. Without the distractions of Monday to Friday busy work, you should be able to see things in a whole new light. Use this insight to alter your approach to the coming week, improving the efficiency and efficacy of your work.

    4. They Exercise

No time to exercise during the week? You have 48 hours every weekend to make it happen. Getting your body moving for as little as 10 minutes releases GABA, a soothing neurotransmitter that reduces stress. Exercise is also a great way to come up with new ideas. Innovators and other successful people know that being outdoors often sparks creativity.
I know that a lot of my best ideas come to me while I’m surfing. While you’re out in the ocean, the combination of invigorating activity and beautiful scenery creates the perfect environment for an influx of creativity. Whether you’re running, cycling, or gardening, exercise leads to endorphin-fueled introspection. The key is to find a physical activity that does this for you and then to make it an important part of your weekend routine.
