APC Senators Working Against Buhari: Saraki Supporters Rain Insults

Some All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators from the North on Thursday, July 30, denied working against the interest of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The senators were reacting to a publication which alleged that at least 20 Northern senators, who signed the vote of confidence motion on Senator Bukola Saraki, were actually those working against Buhari in the senate, Punch reports.

On Tuesday, the Senate reconvened from its three-week break and passed a vote of confidence on its embattled Senate President, Saraki, his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu and other principal officers of the upper house. The Northern senators were among the 81 members of the upper chamber who sponsored the vote of confidence.

Speaking at a news conference addressed by Senator Dino Melaye, the chairman, Senate ad hoc committee on media and publicity, they described the publication which tagged the affected senators as ‘Anti – Buhari’ as wicked,  satanic and unacceptable because all of them actually worked for Buhari’s victory at the poll and had determined to ensure the success of his administration.

According to Melaye, those who sponsored the publication were actually the real enemies of the president because their action was capable of causing disunity between the South and the North.

Melaye added that the members and leadership of the 8th Senate were committed to moving the nation forward by ensuring the success of Buhari’s programmes and policies.

In his reaction, one of the senators, Binta Garba, (Adamawa North) said: “My father, who was the driver of General Muhammadu Buhari when he was in the,military,  will never forgive me if I work against the president. It is not possible for me to work against him.”

Also speaking, Senator Mohammed Shittu, (Jigawa North East) rained curses on the writers and sponsors of the publication, alleging that the people who invited senators to the International Conference Centre on the day of inauguration, were the real enemies of Buhari.

The National Assembly crisis which has been ongoing was finally resolved this week. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had yesterday, applauded President Buhari for the fatherly role he played in the resolution of the crisis.
