The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade, is set to retire from the Nigerian army.
Olukolade, who has reached his retirement age, will be handing over his position to Col. Rabe Abubakar next week, Punch reports.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday, July 30, by the PR Nigeria, a media consultancy outfit to the Nigerian military
Abubakar’s appointment as the acting director of defence information had been approved on Wednesday by the Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Tukur Buratai.
Olukolade has also handed over the leadership of the Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies (FOSSRA) to the director of information of the Nigerian navy, Commodore Kabiru Aliyu.
Olukolade was said to have informed his colleagues at FOSSRA of his retirement at the monthly meeting of the forum held on Thursday at the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), Abuja.
He was quoted as saying he ought to have left the service in November, 2014, but was asked to remain in office by the Army Council, which extended his service on the grounds that it was not proper for him to go at that time.
Olukolade took over from Col Mohammed Yerima as the director of Defence Information in March 2013. He was at one time commander of the Nigerian Army Information School, Bonny Camp in Lagos.
