No doubt, the premiership is a popular league with millions of followership in Nigeria, however, Super Eagles players like Mikel Obi and Victor Moses of Chelsea FC; Odion Ighalo of Watford FC; the duo of Brown Ideye and Victor Anichebe of West Bromich will also dazzle football lovers with skills.
1. Alex Iwobi
Arsenal football club
One of two relatives of Jay Jay Okocha on the Arsenal FC book, the other being Chuba Akpom who would have appeared on this list but for his loan to championship club, Hull City.
The young lad, 19 has represented England at youth level and is even the captain of the Arsenal U-21 side.
Earlier in preseason after Arsenal defeated Lyon 6-0 (he scored two goals), Arsenal boss said of him: “I like his team attitude, his movement. We have a game based on movement and speed, and he integrates that very well. He has good power and is usually efficient – he scores goals a lot.”
He added: “Some players might go out on loan but Alex Iwobi will stay with us.” Does that sound like a regular first team outings this season?
2. Musa Yahaya
Tottenham Hotspurs
Musa Yahaya plays as a winger (predominantly on the left wing) for the Tottenham Hotspur youth teams and he is so highly rated that coaches in the club are asking first team manager, Mauricio Pochettino to give the mercurial player chance n the first team. Who can forget his rabona assist in the 2015 U-20 world cup earlier this summer.
Yahaya has a chance to play for the first team for many reasons. Tottenham Hotspurs give the youth players a chance in the first team (think Harry Kane, Ryan Mason and Nacil Bentaleb) and the clubs left wingers have been unconvincing. Probably its time for the young lad to appear in the first team.
3. Kelechi Iheanacho
Manchester City
Nigerian powerful forward Kelechi Iheanacho is a player to look out for in the coming season of the English premiership, having created a name for himself in the highly competitive English league after a stint at a football academy in Nigeria.
The 18 year old Nigerian U20 player put up an impressive act last season with the club’s second team and all is looking well for him as Stevan Jovetic leaves the club and Edin Dzeko’s imminent move to AS Roma of Italy, he may likely get his first full feature in the first team.
However, the former CAF most promising player of the year have been nothing but impressive at the concluded pre-season tournament of the club and hopefully he will get a chance to shine at the Etihad. He has featured for the U17 and U20 Nigeria national teams.
4. Jordon Femi Ibe
Liverpool Football Club
Another promising youngster that will feature for Liverpool FC is Jordon Ibe, 19. His performance last season was good and commendable. He did well as the season was nearing its end. The team recalled him to the first team in January 2015 from Derby County where he was spending the 2014/2015 season on loan.
Although, he has represented England at the Junior age grades, he has entered the good books of Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh who is set to invite him to the senior national team.
5. Dele Alli
Tottenham Hotspur
Dele is a very talented midfield maestro. The 19 year old started with MK Dons in the league one before his switch over to the spurs. He scored a total of 16 goals in 2014/2015 season and ensure the team grabbed a ticket to play in the Championship next season.
Like the rest of them, he has represented England at the junior age grades but can still represent Nigeria if he wants to. He cost Tottenham Hotspur a whooping sum of £5Million.
