ABEOKUTA—The vice-chancellor of the Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a national emergency in the nation’s education sector, in order to correct the challenges confronting the sector in the country.
Prof. Gbajabiamila said this yesterday in Abeokuta while briefing  newsmen about the activities marking the 10th year anniversary of the institution. The Vice-Chancellor who claimed that due to inconsistent policies and failure to meet international standard in funding, the country had not recorded significant progress in the education sector in the past 50 years.
He also pointed out that every year, over one million candidates who were qualified for admission into the universities were denied access due to limited spaces available.
He linked the cause to failure of planning on the part of policy makers who were in charge of education, saying that there was the danger of the number increasing with time if urgent steps were not taken to address the challenge.
According to him, whatever education policies the nation had adopted in the past 50 years had failed and it’s only a foolish person that will keep on doing the same thing and expect a different result.
