Wike vows to tackle problem of multiple taxations in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT—  Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has promised to tackle the problem of multiple taxations in the state.
Image result for NYESOM WIKEThe governor, yesterday, when members of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mines and Agriculture, PHACCIMA; Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN  and the Petroleum Technical Association of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt, said his government will continue to create the needed atmosphere for businesses to thrive in the state.
“What is important is commitment. The government has the political will to create a conducive environment.  If we want investment to come into the state, then we must fight crime,” he said.
Image result for port harcourt nigeriaPromising to appoint a core professional as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, the governor said he will also take steps to redress delays associated with the issuance of certificates of occupancy and other title documents, noting that it will also raise the internally generated revenue of the state.
He said: “This will not only raise revenue for government but will also enable the business community to raise funds. Our mandate is clear: to make sure we improve the lives of our people and not to antagonise the Federal Government.”
Incoming President of PHACCIMA, Dr Emi Membere Otaji, said the visit was part of moves to consolidate the healthy relationship between the government and the business community.
On his part, the outgoing president of the body,  Mr Emeka Unachukwu hailed the government for the unique attention given to growing the business community.
He enjoined the government to resolve the problem of multiple taxations in the state.
