SILICA GEL

   “Mummy what is this sef, in my shoe” Umoaru asked as he smiled at his new Easter pair of shoes with the right leg on one hand and a silica gel in the other, looking unattentively his mother bent took the silica gel from him, “what is this sef “she asked her self rhetorically.

    Silica gel(siO2) is a granular, vitreous, porus, form of silicon dioxide made synthetically from sodium silicate, it is a dessicant (it aborbs moisture from its environment) despite its unhealthy appearance silica gel is not toxic except in severe case and the reason why there are  cautions like ”DO NOT EAT, HARMFUL  IF SWALLOWED, THROW AWAY, KEEP AWAY FROM THE REACH OF CHILDREN ETC” that sends chills down a parents spine is that the packet is a choking harzard to kids, who send everything to their tongue for test of viability well it may induce a low level of dehydration.

  Am sure you are asking “why are there silica gels in my shoes,bags, purses, electronics etc? Well like I said earlier it is a dessicant, and helps keep the condition of your propertises till it get to you without becoming damp or moisture filled which detriotaes it.

          WAYS TO USE SILICA GEL INCLUDE;

1.To dry out a wet cellphone( if your mobile phone mistakenly falls in to water, the toilet, or pool well first remove your battery, sim-card memory card if any, empty a enough silica gel in a bowl immerse your phone and leave over night before powering on thank you.

2.May be you will be travelling tomorrow and you clothes are not properly dried, but you had to bag them up anyway, well put a bunch of silica gels too within it will dry it considerably and leave it odour less

3.Have a luggage you won be using for a while well silica is the answer it keeps it dry and odour free.

4.Do you have a file where all your hard copy documents, pictures, etc, well a little moisture will be devastating put a bunch of silica too.
